Gujarat is a state in western India, bordered by the Arabian Sea and neighbouring states like Rajasthan and Maharashtra, with its capital in Gandhinagar and its largest city, Ahmedabad. The local cuisine, deeply rooted in the region’s history and culture, is defined by its predominantly vegetarian dishes, a balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavours, and unique snacks which reflect the state’s agricultural abundance and vibrant traditions.
At Ami’s Kitchen, Gujarati dishes emphasise vegetarianism, with a focus on fresh vegetables, lentils, and unique spices like fenugreek and mustard seeds, often absent in UK “Indian” menus. Sweet and tangy flavours are also more prominent, achieved through ingredients like jaggery and tamarind. Our selection of non-vegetarian dishes are created with the same devotion and attention.
